45 Lolita Questions answered by Me ♥

Alright to start.. 0 idea how to use this site, I've wanted to for a while but I'm still learning things so please forgive the mess lol

This is for the discord server event!

1. Please tell us your Hand Name (name that’s used ONLY in internet.) and hometown.

My name is Marzipan, and I live in a small town/village. It is boring here but somehow still charming, I suppose it makes you appreciate the little things.

2. About how long is your history as a Lolita?

I became interested when I was around 9, so around 9 years ago now, from that "Living Doll" trend at the time. I was a huge Venus Angelic fan and she had mentioned lolita, and I think it started from there.
I got my first two dresses for christmas that year... not proper dresses by any means, but I was very happy!
Eventually, I got bored - I couldnt afford any more dresses, I couldn't join a comm due to my age, and I knew in my heart back then that the dresses I did have were not great, but I knew my mum put a lot of care into finding them for me.
At 15 I decided to wear it again...... but I bought my dresses off aliexpress and it was honestly a horrible hot mess looking back. I really thought I could pull it off lol
Then finally almost a year ago I decided to really start to build a proper wardrobe. I started with taobao but then I got my first brand dress and have now really just been buying secondhand brand.
I joined my local comm a few months back and it was a dream come true.

This is me when I was 9. Wearing a costume dress, inside out. Claiming it was lolita. Don’t even ask.

3. What first motivated you to do Lolita fashion?

I honestly really was in love with the "Living Doll" thing - I know looking back that that was never really a thing, moreso a buzz phrase used to make us seem like freaks but at the time I thought it was so cool.

4. After knowing Lolita fashion, have you had any time-gap or resistance till you actually started to be Lolita?

Id honestly consider myself only having become a lolita as of last year. Yes I started to experiment with it since I was little but I dont think it counts.

5. Please define your Lolita style as much as possible. (eg. gothic Lolita, sweet Lolita, white Lolita…. Etc).

Sweet lolita, often OTT sweet or hime. I like sax and pink, mostly. Sometimes old school inspired.

6. About how many Lolita friends do you have?

Depends, I'd say maybe.. 5? Though it depends on what I would consider a friend... if I count all my comm members as friends then like, 20 something lol but I have not met all of them still ^^

7. What is the best thing about doing Lolita?

It is just so pretty and I feel like the cutest thing on earth. I think it is super brave.

8. Conversely, what's the worst thing?

The stress of having to manage all my shipments and keep track of wtf I have ordered XD And shipping fees...

9. Which Lolita Brands do you like?

.. I think you know what I'm gonna say..
Angelic pretty :D
I love BTSSB as well.

10. What was the first Lolita item that you’ve owned?

I will not consider the amazon dress I had when I was 9 lolita. There was another dress though that I'm 99% was legitimate - not the most amazing, but the fabric felt decent, and I loved the bodice. I wish i could find a photo.. in hindsight it was a ugly print but it worked for kid me lol

11. What is the “must have!” Lolita item?

A lolita coat! Especially if you live where I live lol

12. Do you wear drawers?

I don't wear actual bloomers, cant lie, I wear these pink frilly pyjama shorts I've had since I was little.. shameful < / 3 I plan to get a pair of simple ones this year.

13. Do you have any favourite Japanese music?

I've loved Kyary Pamyu pamyu since i was younger!

14. Where do you particularly visit as Lolita?

I visit a big city near me and have also visited London. I usually go to the city to meet my comm or just hang out.

15. About how many times per week do you dress as Lolita?

Honestly not as much as I want to. I've worn it like... 4 times in June this year? not great. I hope to wear it more soon.

16. Please tell us about one embarrassing episode from the time when you were
just beginning Lolita.

When I was little the whole thing was embarassing, considering the items i had, but my most embarassing memory was last year - going out to London and going into the disabled toilet with my friend and my boyfriend, because we needed somewhere for my friend to do her nails. Then someone knocked because they needed to use it and we all walked out in pure shame because well.. it looked very bad lol.

17. What's hairstyle and color that you think Lolita would suite the most?

Curly and any colour :D I think curly or wavy looks best than straight but it is also up to personal preference.
I like light hair in lolita but I have dark brown hair. It can also be beautiful. I think bangs look best so I wear wigs lol

18. Have you ever thought of stopping Lolita? The reason?

Nah, it has brought me a lot of friends and meaning to my life.

19. Please tell us your heart's bible as a Lolita. (anything like a book, magazine, CD, idol...)

I'm not too sure what this means, but my favourite lolita media is Kamikaze Girls. Maybe basic of me but I love how crazy the film is and the fashion in it is beautiful.

20. Do you own a doll? Tell us your feelings about her intensely!

The way this question is worded is so cute :P
I do have a doll, I have several. One is a red eyed pink hair vinyl obitsu, Triela.
I have 2 Licca Chan's, and way way way too many lala loopsies. I love all of them!

this is Triela!!

21. What kind of make-up do you wear when you wear Lolita clothes?

Contacts, pink glitter eyeshadow, mascara, blush, and lip gloss.

22. Have you ever secretly changed clothes in a train station bathroom on Lolita day-out?

Nope, when I wear lolita i cant bring myself to take it off until right before sleep lol

23. Are you composed when doing Lolita all by yourself?

Somewhat. When wearing OTT sweet i feel a bit scared. When I'm wearing something a litttle more toned down, i feel confident and fine tbh.

24. How much do you spend in your Lolita clothes & accessary monthly?

Honestly compared to some, not that much. But for a 17 year old student w no job in a low income house.. too much. :D

25. What is the most expensive Lolita thing you've bought so far? How much was it?

Sugary Carnival, £300. The sax one!

26. So far about how much has the expense been for Lolita goods?

God knows.

27. Lolita outfit really costs money. How do you raise money to cover the cost of Lolita?

Selling things!

28. Have you ever bought from an online store? If so, please tell us its good and bad points and some advice for the future. If not, please tell us why not.

I buy everything online :D

29. Even if you sort of want to keep it a secret, please clandestinely tell us about a private manufacturer that is the best.

No idea what this means :D

30. Is there a brand and/or an item that you think, "I could never get it! But I unreasonably want it!"?

Milky fucking Planet.

31. What do you think about people who only do Lolita at music-lives or cosplay?

Their business.

32. From what age to what age is it acceptable to do Lolita? Do you think that there's a state in which someone must graduate from Lolita? (you can answer as ‘never graduate’)

Any age in my opinion, assuming you can afford it. If you enjoy it, you can wear it. To me, the fashion is more about the clothing than the wearer, I know some disagree with this but I think if a coord is good then I dont really care what you look like.

33. Is there a Lolita fashion or behavior that you think "I don't want Lolitas to do this!" about?

I dislike those cheap mass produced taobao dresses, I find its very hard to make them look good. I also hate mismatched pinks, as in very mismatched. A little error is inevitable with this fashion being mostly purchased online.. but I do not understand people wearing a warm toned dress with cool toned shoes! D:
As far as behaviour goes.. I guess just not washing your clothes? When i was very new I did not want to ever wash my dresses out of fear, but its just something that needs to happen. You can get a good few uses out of a dress before a wash assuming you are wearing a blouse but blouses, socks, things of the sort need washed more frequently just as you would with "normal" clothing.

34. Is there something you think "Lolita has to be this way!" about?

Its hard to say. Some outfits just do not look lolita. I think a petticoat is a must, except maybe in some cases like certain old school coords - you can wear the dresses without one but it just looks flat and doesnt give off the same feeling. I think all of the "rules" can be played with when you get enough experience, so its all kind of vague, but I dont think anyone new should try this.

35. While doing Lolita, has something changed from earlier than you did Lolita?

Well I used to, when i was about 15, believe replicas were okay, and that they were "just as good", that its important to get a bunch of shitty cheap dresses all at once, that you didnt need a good petti... lol that has changed drastically. I ordered all my stuff off aliexpress and it was a nightmare!
I've also become a lot more confident in travelling and meeting new people (:

36. Do you go to school/work as Lolita?

Yes, I occassionally attend college in lolita. I try not to do it often, as its not the most comfortable for me and I always worry I'll distract my classmates or look like i am "attention seeking". But sometimes it is just nice!

37. Do you wear Lolita clothes as casual wear?

No honestly, as of lately I only wear lolita to meetups or on a day out, as we have fairly frequent ones. It It is not comfortable for me as I prefer to wear wigs, but I have very thick long hair under so I get headaches. I also prefer being very low maintenance daily.
Sometimes I think about wearing my dresses as casual wear just with a little cutsew under and some ankle socks but honestly I dont think i will, it feels weird..

38. Do you have a boyfriend (or husband)? Do you understand each other? (I think she meant “Does he understand you (as lolita)?”)

Yes, my boyfriend is pretty accepting and has bought me a lot of my dresses as gifts. He finds it a bit much but he is always confident when hes out with me in it and hes the one calming me down when I get self conscious lol.  ♥

39. What do the people around you think of your doing Lolita? Do they accept it?

My family like it, particularly my mum. I used to dress a lot different and lets just say this style is much preffered for a mother to see, lol.

40. What kind of lolita is who has inspired you until now?

Princess Peachie. She has inspired me since I was a kid.. I didnt realise she had so much hate till recently and that a lot of people consider her ita but I dont think so. Aside from the replica stuff she always felt like she was genuinely enjoying the fashion and put so much love in and it all matched.
Recently I've been inspired by Melva Yan on lookbook, her coords are just so beautiful.

41. Have you ever made your own Lolita clothing or/and accessories? If so, what was the best item that you’ve made?

Aha i tried to make a KC when i was 15. I'm not even gonna.........

42. If you have an ideal Lolita outfit or coordination, please tell us.

Pastels, pinks, sax, big ol twintail wig. That, or a simple classy yet sweet old school look.

43. Is there a motif that you think “this is a simple of Lolita”?

Bows, lace and frills.

44. Would you want to dress your children as Lolita?

I would not put my child in lolita because I'd want them to develop their own style, and spending so much on a fashion when they are likely to not want it and outgrow it sounds like a waste. As much as it'd be cute, I dont think it would be fair on the kid.

45. What's your image of the ideal Lolita?

Someone who can colour match nicely and really cares about keeping their wardrobe clean and in good condition :D
